October 25, 2018 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. is looking for a few good volunteers! SCOM programs include Helping Hands Outreach Center, the Senior Nutrition Site, Meals on Wheels, and The Unique Boutique.

There are many ways that you can help us serve the community! We would love to have you come be a part of our team!

Ways that YOU can help: filing, cleaning, sorting clothes and other items, moving and organizing large items at Unique Boutique, help in food pantry, basic carpentry, mowing, serving food at the Senior Nutrition Site, delivering food for Meals on Wheels, cooking and preparing meals at Senior Nutrition Site.

October 24, 2018 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. wants to extend their gratitude to our sponsors for supporting our most recent fundraiser. October 22, 2018 - Tenaha Masonic Lodge #737 held their "Clean the Highway" trash pickup on Saturday, October 20, 2018. We had 9 Masons and family members to participate in our project. Even though it rained on us several times, we managed to make a difference on Loop 157 in Tenaha, TX.

October 21, 2018 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society (PWPS) held their regular monthly meeting this past Saturday, October 20th. There was a great attendance and participation from members in the monthly challenge featuring "Wildlife".

There also was a very interesting workshop, including videos and discussions on "Landscape Composition" or how to get the best aesthetically pleasing shot.

The PWPS caters to all levels of photographers, from helping beginners, to sharing knowledge from professionals. Anyone with an interest in photography, cameras or editing/composing photographs should attend our next meeting on the 3rd Saturday in November, at the First United Methodist Church, 211 Porter St., Center, TX from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. For more information about club activities or memberships contact Billie F. October 17, 2018 - Center Fire Department Fire Chief Keith Byndom presented a program on fire prevention to the Golden Harvest Ministries Club at their October 15 meeting at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church in Center at 11:30 AM.

He explained what we needed in our homes and what to do in case of fire. Members and guests were able to ask questions. Chief Byndom gave examples of dangerous situations he had experienced in his line of duty.

Golden Harvest Ministries Choir Director Harold Hanson and choir members sang favorite hymns to the Golden Harvest Ministries Club at their October 15 meeting. Members were reminded to bring toys, stuffed animals, and other needed items for the Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center to the November 19 meeting.

October 12, 2018 - The Center Police Department Ladies Auxiliary would like to congratulate the winner of the Autographed Basketball and photo of former Harlem Globe Trotter Trazel D. Silver.

Ms Terri Bell of Garrison was the lucky winner of drawing the that was held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the close of the Poultry Festival.

The CPDLA would like to thank everyone for their support in 'Backing The Blue!'

October 10, 2018 - Friends of the Library is hosting the Quilt Raffle Fundraiser 2018. Ticket prices are $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets.

Tickets will be available at the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library desk and from certain members of the Friends of the Library. The drawing will be held at the FOL Book Sale on November 3rd. Proceeds benefit the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library.

October 8, 2018 - The winner of the 2018 Danny Foster Memorial Fundraiser of the Center Noon Lions Club for a 2018 GMC Canyon extended cab pickup is Taylor Clark. Clark was handed her keys for the GMC pickup by Center Noon Lions Club Vehicle Raffle Chairman Tim Wulf. She is a sophomore attending Panola College.

The four winners of $250 were J. Mike Bird, Ron Bellenger, TNT McDrill, and Suzanne Ihlo.

The Lions Club would like to give special thanks to Raymond Motor Company who provided the 2018 GMC pickup for the raffle.

Money raised from the fundraiser supports charities, schools, children's eye classes, children with health problems as well as assisting with building of baseball and softball fields.
