June 21, 2018 - The Shelby County Cancer Fund (SCCF) is hosting "Trunk Treasures" June 23, 2018 from 9am until 2pm on the downtown Center Square. Put your gently used junk in your trunk and join us for a community garage sale.
- ‘Trunk Treasures’ is a community sale for your gently used items (treasures!!!) out of your trunk, truck bed, van or trailer.
- Sale starts at 9:00am, but participants may leave whenever they wish.
- There is a $40 charge per vehicle if you pre-register a spot. $50/vehicle if you decide to join us the day of! There will also be a spot set up for those would like to just drop off and donate their treasures!
- Vendors may choose what to do with their earnings - we appreciate any and every donation. We would love for our county to be involved in helping us raise money for this great cause!!
- Come ready to find awesome treasures!!

The Shelby County Cancer Fund, a non-profit organization, is a group of volunteers made up of survivors, caretakers, and others who want to give back to our community. Many have been through treatments as a patient or a caretaker and we know the struggle. We are compassionate about reaching out to others who are facing the same ordeal.
The organizations mission is, although we cannot take away all the pain, we can show love through the trying times to hopefully encourage and strengthen someone's faith in God and others.
All donations are appreciated and also tax deductible, made payable to Shelby County Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 283, Shelbyville, Texas 75973.

June 20, 2018 - Timpson Frontier Days Pony Express traveled through Shelby County and surrounding areas inviting everyone far and wide to the 2018 Frontier Days on the Timpson city square.
The Pony Express envoy traveled through the area on June 11-12. Each city visited included Garrison, Joaquin, Center, Timpson, Tenaha, Mt. Enterprise, Gary and Carthage.
Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce was represented by Paul Smith, TACC Chamber President, and Marilyn Corder, Frontier Days Event Coordinator. They accompanied Pony Express Riders Danny Dixon and his daughter Sarah to each of the cities being invited along with their horses "Pepper" and "Lena."
This year will be the 56th year of Timpson Frontier Days starting July 5th and running through July 8th.

June 21, 2018 - It's not too late to be a vendor at the 2018 East Texas What-A-Melon Festival which is coming to downtown Center July 12-14th!
The Annual What-A-Melon Festival draws thousands of visitors to enjoy carnival rides, games, contests including ‘The Biggest Watermelon Contest’, live music and entertainment including Reed Barton Music and Zach Mason & the Jars, the Pet Contest and the Miss East Texas What-A-Melon Pageant. This is a fun, family-oriented good ol’time!
Booth space is $125 and includes a 10' x 10' canopy-covered space with an electric plug.

June 19, 2018 - Bobbie Nutt presented the June program to the Golden Harvest Ministries Club on June 18, 2018, at the Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church in Center, Texas.
Bobbie Nutt displays a picture of the Center Dairy Queen take in July, 1962, when she and her husband purchased it. While they lived in a house behind it, they added a dining room, improved the drive-through, put on a red roof, and replaced the equipment as they learned on the job. They won many awards during the 45 & 1/2 years of ownership, until Bobbie sold it in 2007. Although retired, Bobbie continues to help prepare food for residents of Shelby County at the Senior Nutrition Site.

June 18, 2018 - William Cummings from Tenaha, Texas earned the honor of being listed on the Spring 2018 Semester Dean's List of Academic Honors for Sam Houston State University.
The students listed on the Dean’s List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours.
June 18, 2018 - Center Garden Club wishes to thank both the Farmers State Bank and Shelby Savings Bank for hosting the club’s first horticulture exhibit which celebrated National Garden Week, June 4-8, 2018. Center Garden Club also congratulates Cindy Sanders and Abby Rodriguez, drawing winners who each received a lovely fern generously donated by Walmart.

June 18, 2018 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their regular monthly meeting for June with their monthly Challenge featuring Night Photography. The Challenge featured a total of 20 photographs submitted by members for voting and critique . The quality of the pictures was outstanding and showed the talent of all who participated. The workshop, "Birds and Bugs", was taught by Janet Hughes with information and techniques needed to photograph flying objects of any kind. With so many bird photographers in attendance, the discussions were intense, lots of information shared this day.
The club would like to welcome new member Sam Flarity, from Marshall, TX.
The club is open to anyone interested in learning more about photography and cameras. Memberships are available, a single membership fee is $35.00 @ yr. and anyone is welcome to attend any meeting. June 15, 2018 – Baseball tournament season is upon us and hundreds of players and their families will soon arrive in Center, Texas. The district tournament will be from June 22 through June 25; the State tournaments will be June 29 through July 19.
The tournament program books will be available for all participants as mementos. This is a chance for local businesses to highlight their goods, hours or special deals to tournament guests.
This year, the ads will run for all three weeks of district and state tournaments, and will also be included for the World Series. This will be advertising to over 120 + teams and their families.
“The City hosts these tournaments each year,” Center Mayor David Chadwick explained, “and they represent a large economic impact to our community. Advertising directly to these visitors in the tournament program can provide an advantage to getting visitors into our local stores.” A sponsorship in the tournament book will be the same for all tournaments and the World Series. “Any business offering a coupon discount or special offer for visitors will be seen by hundreds, perhaps thousands, of out of town visitors.”
If any business would like to sponsor a space in the tournament book, the deadline is approaching soon. “We need to get the book to the printers by June 19, so we need orders by then,” said Jason Mitchell, Center Recreation Program Director.
Further, to facilitate information during the tournaments, the City is launching a new event app. “Anyone wanting to stay up on the most current tournament news can download Attendify, then search DYB,” Mitchell added. Advertisers and tournament sponsors will also be featured in the app.
