Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council Adds Three New Programs

December 16, 2020 - The Alcohol and Drug Council has added three new programs with the goal to provide prevention services to youth and adults on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Youth Recovery Communities (YRC) - a program for youth, ages 13-21, with a history of SUD (Substance Use Disorder), including co-occurring mental health disorders, who are seeking recovery, along with their family members, significant others, and/or supportive allies.  The purpose of the program is to support and increase the prevalence of long-term recovery.   A Peer Recovery Leader (aka Recovery Coach) will meet the participant where they are and help them get to where they want to be in life.  The YRC takes a holistic approach to recovery offering an array of non- clinical services.  Our youth center will be an appealing, fun, and safe place for youth, their families, and supportive allies to engage in social activities, receive support and work with our Peer Recovery Leaders.

Recovery Support Services (RSS) - The purpose of this program is to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery from substance use disorders by enhancing an individuals quality of life, resiliency and increased social contributions and connections through sustained engagement in long-term Recovery Support Services.  The Recovery Support Services will help participants establish and meet their goals while working closely with them.  Recovery Coaches will help participants connect to recovery support groups to encourage their long-term sobriety.

Parenting Awareness and Drug Risk Education Services (PADREs) - PADREs is an intervention grant (the first for ADAC!) and it's goal is to provide community based intervention outreach services and evidenced-based education to people who have children under the age of 6, or who are expecting.  PADREs will be holding parenting education groups for fathers, which is a first in this area. We also will have a group for moms and couples. We will be covering things like anger management, substance use, discipline, and mental health. Along with case management, we will be utilizing relationships in the community to make sure we are helping them address any needs they have which may be barriers to a successful life. Referral sources will be CPS, OSAR, pregnancy help centers, Love Inc, to name a few.  We are honored to be a part of this grant, and look forward to seeing the program flourish!
