Center HS FFA Member Places 1st at Henderson Livestock Show

February 4, 2015 - Livestock Shows are a way of life for many families. FFA students purchase livestock projects (pigs, chickens, goats, lambs, rabbits, heifers, and steers) that they feed daily, take care of, and show throughout the year in hopes of "making the sale" and being rewarded for their awesome efforts. Although the "prize money" isn't the real reward; responsibility, time management, hard work and dedication are, it does make things a little more fun when the students are successful in their efforts.

Recently, Madison Kirby, a freshman and Center FFA member traveled to Henderson to compete against 167 pigs from across the state of Texas. She exhibited her 190 pound gilt (a female pig) named Linda in a show that can easily be called the largest jackpot in East Texas! Madison and Linda received the highest honors possible! 1st place in their class. Through hard work and dedication, Madison has become a very successful showman.

Madison plans to show Linda at the Shelby County Livestock Show on Friday, March 7th. We would like to invite everyone out to the fair grounds to watch her as well as all of the Center FFA exhibitors. It is truly one of the best experiences, watching the hard work of students pay off.
