October 31, 2023 - This Friday, November 3, 2023 Center Middle School's "My Sister, Myself" will be kicking off their annual college tour fundraising with a bucket drive.
Our children are our future, and we believe our future can be altered for the better by investing in our children now. “My Sister, Myself” is a school-based, school-sanctioned, after school program for teen girls that was formed in January 2017 out of the desire to empower young girls as future leaders of our community.
Statistics consistently demonstrate the alarming incidence of dangerous behaviors in teenage girls in the U.S., such as:
- 9% become pregnant before graduation
- 22% never graduate from high school
- 27% have or will become suicidal
- 25% resort to self-injurious behavior
- 55% experiment with alcohol, drugs and tobacco
Through regular meetings facilitated by adult leaders, MSMS helps middle school girls learn how to better understand and address the issues they face on a daily basis. My Sister, Myself promotes the development of confidence, leadership skills, a godly character, and compassion for others, through community service, facilitating young girls to realize their worth and value as individuals.
