Center Woman’s Reading Club Makes Donations to Support Literacy

January 10, 2024 - The Center Woman’s Reading Club met December 7 with 11 members and 2 associate members present. As part of the business meeting Hope Jordan was welcomed as a new member of the club.

Following the business meeting, President Alease Copelin said that the club members were great supporters of literacy evidenced by their donations to the Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library and support of organizations such as Blue Santa and FL Moffett‘s Cookies and Cocoa. Reading Club members brought a great number of books to the meeting to donate to these two important organizations to promote literacy for students.

Johanna Ruiz and Amanda Rodney with FL Moffett School told members the purpose of Cookies and Cocoa is to create a community of readers and develop a positive relationship with the community. Every child who attended the event will get to choose a book to take home to promote reading in school as well as home.

Amy Lindsey and Denny DiVerdi King thanked the club for its support of the Operation Blue Santa program sponsored by the Center Police Department. This important program not only provides Christmas gifts to families but also gives each child at least one book as part of their gifts. The program is supported through the generous donations of individuals, clubs and organizations. Their hope is that each child can have a least one book to read at home.

Following the informative presentation, delicious refreshments provided by Alease Copelin were enjoyed by all. Club members posed for a photograph in front of the books that were donated.
