Grill Fest Cook-off Presented by Farmers State Bank
May 9, 2018 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce announces that the Grill Fest sanctioned barbecue cook-off, presented by Farmers State Bank, will take place Saturday, June 9 on the grounds of the Windham Civic Center. The Gold Sponsors are Tyson Foods and Windham Civic Center. Entertainment is sponsored by Rapid Payday & Title Loans LLC and Judge’s Table is sponsored by Pineywoods Beverage.
“Over $6,500 will be awarded in prize money to registered cook teams. Cook teams may register and enter the contest with a $150 registration fee prior to May 26 or $200 after that date,” according to the Grill Fest Committee. The barbecue cook-off is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society.
Prize money for the top three cook teams will be awarded in three categories – Pork Spare Ribs, Chicken and Brisket. First place is $1,000, second place $750 and third place $500. Trophies will be awarded for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. Awards are sponsored by the City of Center.
Set-up, meat inspection and cooking will begin Friday afternoon, June 8. Cook teams may also take part in the Bean Cook-Off with a $10 entry fee and jackpot prize. Also, back by popular demand is the Dessert Cook-Off with Adult and Young Adult (18 years old and under) categories. There will be a $10 entry fee and jackpot prize in the Adult category and free entry and trophy prize in the Young Adult category.
The public is invited to sample tastings of barbecue at cook team stations Food boats will be available for purchase at the entrance for $5 each. Entry for children ages 5 and under is free.
In addition to the Chillin’ and Grillin’, there will be a Washer Pitching Tournament and 42 Tournament, sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank, and DJ Jesse will provide music.
