December 21, 2016 - Save the date! Community Conversations will be held January 30, 2016 at Piney Woods Outreach Center from 6pm until 8pm.
The event is hosted by Tri-County Community Action, Inc.; Speak Your Mind Texas; Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Deep East Texas and Burke Mental Health Services.
Speak Your Mind Texas is a Texas Health and Human Services public Awareness Campaign authorized by the Texas Legislature. The campaign’s primary target audience is teens and young adults, with youth influencers and support systems as a secondary audience.
Goals for Speak Your Mind Texas campaign:
- Spark dialogue about mental health and substance use.
- Remove negative thoughts about mental health and substance use issues.
- Educate Texas about the facts and potential warning signs.
- Encourage teens and young adults to speak up if they or someone they know needs help.
- Highlight 2-1-1 Texas as a resource to find local community services.
Community Conversations are designed to encourage dialogue about mental health and substance use, remove barriers to treatment, reduce negative opinions, promote recovery, help people find community resources, and improve mental health. During the past 2 years, 31 Community Conversation events have been attended by nearly 3,000 people across Texas.
The campaign encourages participation by teens and young adults as well as anyone involved with young people – parents, family members, teachers, professors, law enforcement agencies, probation, parole, city council members, school board members, lawyers, mayors, commissioners, judges, community leaders, faith leaders, hospital communities and mental health service providers.
