Community Supports First Annual Fall Festival of Hope

November 7, 2018 - (Album) - The first annual Fall Festival of Hope benefiting the Boo's Battle Support Fund was held October 20, 2018 on the square in Center.

A multitude of activities were included in the event with the first being the 5K run which began at 8am in front of the John D. Windham Civic Center. 

Christine Taylor, race director, thanked everyone for participating in the 5K and stated, "100% of the proceeds go to cancer in Shelby County and DeSoto Parish, so we thank you for supporting the cause."

During the opening ceremonies on the Center square, Judy Monroe welcomed everyone to the festival and Taylor announced the winners of the 5K per each division and they are as follows: first place in the men's 18-25 division was Daniel Thomas with a 2nd place overall and a time of 26:13.47; first place in the women's 18-25 division was Emily Koonce with a time of 27:13.82; first place in the 36-64 division was Sunshine Haley with a time of 27:15.98. First place in the 65 and over division as well as overall winner was Daniel Brown with a time of 25:31.06; first place in the 65 and over female division was Mary Kaplan with a time of 36:04.33.

Each individual was recognized for their achievement and received a medal.

During the day several entries for the pie competition were received and three judges were chosen to sample them.

After the winners of the pie competition were determined, Jerry Lewis announced the recipients in each division.

Junior
1st place, Molly Atkinson, Lemon Pie
2nd place, Chloe Atkinson, Peanut Butter Pie

Adult
1st place, JoAnne Schillings, Ritz Cracker Pie
2nd place, Brandy Lewis, Coconut Pie
3rd place, Hannah Collins, Dutch Apple Pie

After the results of the pie competition were announced, each of the pies were auctioned by Lewis to benefit the Boo's Battle Support Fund. Following the pie auction, the winner of the chili cook-off was announced to be Michelle Walker.
