Construction Work Delayed Following Crash in Construction Zone on US 84

Traffic flow and roadway construction was interrupted Wednesday following a crash in a construction zone on US 84.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Jimmy Faulkner, a two-vehicle crash occurred without injuries on US 84 north of Timpson at 10:50am on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

A 2008 Mack truck tractor driven by Dwight Hensley of Mansfield, Louisiana, was traveling west on SH 84. A 1998 Dodge flatbed driven by Burnett Johnson of Garrison, Texas was pulling a trailer loaded with logs east on SH 84, north of Timpson. The driver of the log truck reported the trailer brakes failed, causing him to lose control and enter the wrong side of the road striking the Mack truck head-on.

Construction crews already had traffic down to one lane, alternating the flow of east and west bound traffic, when the crash occurred and the log truck came to rest blocking the throughway. Crews then had to direct the flow of traffic onto the side they were working on and had scrapped down to the dirt for rebuilding the roadway.

The Mack truck which is owned by Tan Mar Rentals received minor damage and was able to be driven from the crash when it was released by Trooper Faulkner. The log truck had to be towed from the scene by Hopkins Wrecker Service. Johnson was cited for wrong side of roadway.

Timpson Police Department Chief Kent Graham also responded to the crash scene.
