Deputy Responding to Chase Involved in Crash

December 30, 2017 - A Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a single-vehicle crash December 15, 2017 while responding to a chase in progress, which involved the Precinct 4 Constable.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Dustin Ramos, at 9:55pm a marked white 2010 Ford F-150 Shelby County Sheriff patrol vehicle driven by Deputy Ruth Gonzalez, 36, was northbound on CR 3280 en-route to an emergency call.

Upon traveling around a sharp curve at an unsafe speed for road conditions, on a roadway with loose white rock dirt, the Ford traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a tree with its right front quarter panel, causing damage.

No injuries to Deputy Gonzalez were reported as a result of the crash.

Reports are that Deputy Michael Griffin while assisting in searching a wooded area for the suspect in the chase who had fled from the vehicle being pursued, received a minor injury.

The driver involved in the chase the deputy was responding to was not reported to have immediately been apprehended.
