DETCOG Board to Hold October 26 Meeting in Newton

October 13, 2023 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Iris and Annie Howard Civic Center at 213 East Court Street in Newton, Texas. A Luncheon will be served at noon, and the Board meeting will be held immediately following lunch.

There will be a special presentation before the Board Meeting by Charriss York, Director of the Green Infrastructure for Texas (GIFT) program. Through GIFT, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is expanding its work with Hurricane Harvey impacted communities. The GIFT Program goal is to further the use of nature-based solutions, including natural or green infrastructure, to reduce flood risk while also providing benefits such as reducing stormwater runoff, protecting, and improving water quality, providing community green space, and supporting local priorities and needs.

Welcoming members and guests to Newton County will be Newton County Judge Ronnie Cochran, Newton Mayor John Pollock, and Newton County Commissioners Danny Bentsen, Phillip White, Gary Fomby and Leonard Powell.
