Dixie Baseball World Series in Full Swing at Center’s Lions Ballpark

Center Lion’s Ballpark, Saturday, July 21, 2018 –

World Series Dixie League Baseball action, on Saturday, saw two nine-year-old-and-under games begin the day with Pool B play. Ruston La. and Willis Tx. played the first game and they were followed by Center and Columbia Mississippi.

The first game saw things slip away from Willis as Ruston gained a lopsided 17-5 lead by the conclusion of the second inning and the contest was called due to the time clock being expired.

The next game was much closer and saw Columbias’ Clint McCain score the game’s only run in the bottom of the second inning, after starting off the inning with a lead-off single and scoring on a passed ball.

Center pitchers Wulf and Searcy pitched well to keep the game close but neither team’s defense  allowed the other team to score for the rest of the game. Columbia took the 1-0 run win.

Center is hosting the tournament for the first time and there are 26 teams participating. Pool play will continue through Sunday July 22, 2018.

Precautions are being taken because of the extreme temperatures which have already reached in excess of 104 degrees.
