East Texas Chopper Guys Host Benefit for Patricia Huffman Smith Museum

Group which traveled to museum

June 23, 2015 - Saturday, June 20, 2015, Dennis Leggett, VP Area A Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, and the East Texas Chopper Guys hosted a benefit for the Patricia Huffman Smith Museum that commemorates the Columbia Space Shuttle. The purpose of the museum is to pay tribute to the Columbia 28 missions especially that of STS-107. There is an area designated to the seven fallen heroes of the mission and the two searchers that lost their lives in the recovery efforts. The museum, located in Hemphill, is open to the public.

The museum has set a goal to advance education through the NASA Space Program that may be enjoyed by all students within a 200 mile range of the museum. This benefit raised over $1,000 and was presented to Marsha Cooper who was representing the museum. Primary sponsors for this event were Leggett Cycle, Sabine Bank and Trust in Center, K-Bar Motosports, K & B ATV, and Joker Customs.

The MTR M/C group from Center, Circuit Riders M/M, Steal the Wind R/C and many individual riders participated. Also, the Joaquin Trail Riders Group camped across the way at Boles field and even got in on some of the fun. A great time was had by all. Who knows, maybe one day we will have an astronaut from East Texas. If you would like to make contributions, please feel free to contact the museum: 375 Sabine Street Hemphill, Texas 75948 or phone 409-787-4827.
