April 17, 2015 - On November 5th, 2012 the story of Captain Reed Dominy was published on 
Shelby County Today and the Light and Champion Newspaper on December 31st, 2012. Born in Center he joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and became a fighter pilot. 
He and his P-38 fighter went missing 71 years ago on April 15th, 1944 and never recovered. Captain Dominy’s name is listed on the Walls of the Missing at the Netherlands American Cemetery at Margraten. The local families have adopted all 8,301 graves of Americans buried there from WW II and the 1,722 names on the wall. I’m told by Mr. Ron Dumoulin who lives there and has adopted Captain Dominy’s name that there is even a waiting list of people wanting to adopt an American serviceman.
Mr. Dumoulin as do others honors their serviceman each year on his birthday, the date he died or was declared missing, their National Memory Day of May 4th, our Memorial Day of May 30th, and Independence Day July 4th.
In remembrance I emailed Mr. Dumoulin on April 15th telling him the thoughts and prayers of Shelby County citizens were with him that day as he honors one of our own. He emailed me back the photo below and the following. “Thank you for the e-mail you send me. I have make a picture of the wall and in front the flowers. The picture makes it more personal than just a name on the wall. In two weeks there will start an event on the semitery calld "The faces of Margraten". It is a collections of about 4000 pictures from the American soldiers who are burried there. The same event takes place on the American cemitery 'Henry Chappel' in Belgium. The picture of captain Dominy will be shown than to. (sorry for the bad grammer. How great is that. If only we could generate the same consistent feelings here at home. I hope you will consider attending our VFW Post 8904 Memorial Day program this year to honor and remember our fallen and missing. The Timpson American Legion also conducts a program at So So Park.
