FSA County Committee Elections to Begin

November 13, 2017 – Ballots for the 2017 Angelina-Nacogdoches-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby Farm Service Agency county committee elections began on Monday, Nov. 6, with the mailing of ballots to eligible voters. The deadline to return the ballots to local FSA offices is Dec.4, 2017.

Eligible voters who do not receive ballots can obtain ballots from their local USDA Service Center.  Dec. 4, 2017, is the last day for voters to submit ballots in person to local USDA Service Centers. Ballots returned by mail must also be postmarked no later than Dec. 4. Newly elected committee members and their alternates will take office Jan. 1, 2018.

Producers must participate or cooperate in an FSA program to be eligible to vote in the county committee election.  Farmers and ranchers who supervise and conduct the farming operations of an entire farm, but are not of legal voting age, also may be eligible to vote.

Committees are a critical component of the day-to-day operations of FSA.  They are comprised of three to 11 members who serve three-year terms.  Farmers and Ranchers who are electd to serve apply their judgement and knowledge to help with the decisions necessary to administer FSA programs in their counties, ensuring that the needs of local producers are met.
