Garden Club Spotlights One Wonder: Japanese Persimmon Tree

November 1, 2017 - Center Garden Club has selected for its “One Wonder” feature the absolutely stunning Japanese persimmon tree, located at 212 Houston Street in Center, the family home of Marilyn Ballard and her late husband, Larry Ballard. Marilyn noted that historical accounts of her house indicate that this Japanese persimmon was planted in 1897—one hundred and twenty years ago. It is such a beauty, an autumnal delight: a grand -- and as Halloween approaches, leafless tree with its hundreds of orange globes set against the sky, especially the night sky. It is definitely “One Wonder” that deserves viewing!

Center Garden Club meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each from September through May. Guests are welcome. For further information, contact Carolyn Bounds at 598-3414 or any other CGC member.
