In God's Word by Mike Mills

May 23, 2017 - We all know the world is in a mess, that there is turmoil in all things and in all places, hate and racism spewed by all colors of peoples toward others. Injustice upon people of other faiths, creeds and colors. Famines, droughts, floods, earthquakes, and storms dominate the news and our lives. If you watch the "news" all you will see are bad things.

So people worry, people are anxious about their lives. While this is natural for us humans, it is not useful nor recommended.

Let me tell you what the Bible says about being anxious or worrying your life away.

"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow not reap nor gather into barns and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (Matthew 6:25-26)

Jesus is telling us that man is God's most prized possession on earth and he breaks down our needs to the most basic; food, drink and clothing. You are probably thinking; well I have many more concerns that those few basic needs. I ask you then, why?

Why are you worried about the things of this earth? Do you not know that all the physical things of this earth will eventually be burned up and only the Words of God left for eternity? That is why Jesus keeps things so simple, for those are the only things that truly matter. At the end of this age as the world changes and this heaven and earth pass away only two things will be left from all that you see today. God's Word and God's children, the saved of this world, all else will be gone, burned up. Don't worry about it!

Jesus asks us; "And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" (Matthew 6:27) Think about it. Just what good does it do to worry or be anxious about the things of this world. The world we know is temporary, heaven and hell are permanent and our destiny is in one or the other.

Then what should I do? How should I conduct my life here on earth if I am not to be concerned about the things of this world?

Jesus explains the things that worldly people seek after which include; what we will eat, what we will drink, what we will wear, most would include what we would call "the finer things of life", but we are talking about the physical rewards of life on earth.

About those he says this; "For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all." (Matthew 6:32) God knows our needs and will provide for them, Jesus gives us the path to follow. "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:33)

By keeping our lives simple and looking for the spiritual things instead of physical things, if we seek we will find, the right thing, the kingdom of God.

"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matthew 6:34)

Try these three principles in your life. First, do your very best in everything you do. Second, pray often for guidance and inspiration from our Lord. Third, leave everything else to the Lord for by our weakness, His strength is shown to all.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and make his face to shine upon you this day...
