"Grow Up" by Doug Fincher

I know what it is to be in need....but have learned to be content in every situation....” Phil. 4:12

January 24, 2022 - I once talked to a lady whose life had been a combination of partying, doping and abusing alcohol… and she blamed her parents for it all. “If they’d just paid more attention to me, I wouldn’t have turned out this way.”

I began thinking about my departed parents. They poured their life’s blood into feeding and clothing us ten children. They didn’t have time to attend any of the football games I played in nor did they attend my high school or college graduations. We slept three to a bed, wore hand-me-down clothes, and missed a good many meals. Why, I was the only ninth grader at the Center High School that showed up on opening day barefooted as a yard dog!

But instead of blaming those hard times on Mother and Daddy, my overpowering memory of them is their selfless sacrifices for us. This whining generation doesn’t need more attention. They’re choking to death on too much of it now.

Their big need is to grow up.
