September 17, 2018 - The Center Fire Department responded to a hay and barn fire September 13, 2018 at 8:15am off U.S. Highway 96 South of Center.
When the firemen arrived 2.60 miles from Loop 500, all of the contents of a large barn were in flames. It appeared the barn was filled with a large number of round hay bales, as well as a tractor and several other pieces of equipment.
The fire had already progressed too far to extinguish the flames, let alone salvage any of the contents, which were a total loss.
Firemen returned to the station at 8:49am.
