Joaquin ISD Hosts Program Honoring Veterans

November 16, 2017 - (Album) - Joaquin ISD held a program Honoring Our Veterans on November 7, 2017 in the Joaquin High School gymnasium.

The event began with a welcome by Matthew Silvey followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Brooklinn Penning. "The Star Spangled Banner" was performed by the Joaquin High School Band and a history of Veterans Day was given by Michalla Byrd.

"God Bless America" was performed by Cassie Porter and Lauren Garrett gave a speech entitled "The Noble and Brave." 

Connor Bragg gave an introduction of "Our Heroes" and each of the veterans present on the gymnasium floor told who they are. 

"America the Beautiful" was then performed by Hattie Alexander and Desere' Cooper gave a "Tribute to Those No longer With Us." TAPS was  then performed by Jacob Laster followed by further performance by the Joaquin High School Band.

Blake Cummings introduced the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 members who then presented the Voice of Democracy winners.

During the program VFW Post 8904 members Jason Sanford presented one of his medals to a young man he noticed saluting in the audience.

Mark Lawrence then sang "Proud to Be An American" accompanied by performances of the Joaquin High School Cheerleaders and Twirlers.

The event was brought to a close with a prayer given by Gavin Penning.
