Joaquin recovered a Shelbyville fumble during the Dragons’ first drive. The Rams then drove the football downfield enough to give junior Rams kicker Jesus Bravo a 25-yard field goal attempt. He sailed his kick through the uprights to give Joaquin a 3-0 advantage with 4:18 left in the first stanza.

Joaquins’ next score came on a 1-yard scoring touchdown run by junior fullback Ian Shahan with 8:58 left in the first half. Bravo added an extra point kick to give JHS a 10-0 advantage.

Shelbyvilles’ next drive went 3-and-out but LD Coleman made good on a 48-yard punt which pinned Joaquin back at the Rams 15-yard line.

Connor Bragg took the handoff on the first play of the Ram’s possession and weaved 85 yards for a Joaquin score with 7:10 left in the second period. Both teams had another possession during the first half but were unable to score. The two teams headed to the lockeroom for the midway intermission with Joaquin leading Shelbyville by a 16-0 score.

Another score by Shahan, with 6:40 left in the third quarter, gave JHS a 23-0 lead, after Bravo kicked the extra point through.

The final touchdown of the night was made when Connor Bragg raced into the endzone from 47 yards to score with 7:25 left in the game. Trenton Ramsey tacked on a 2-point conversion run for the final points of the contest.

The Rams did not just control the scoreboard. They led the Dragons in rushing by carrying the football 25 times for 362 yards, as opposed to Shelbyville’s 27 carries for 39 yards. Joaquin completed 3 of 5 passes for 64 yards. Joaquin led in first downs gained 12-2. The Rams were penalized 6 times for 55 yards. Shelbyville had 5 miscues which costed them 30 yards.

Next Friday, September 21, 2018, the Rams will host the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs for Joaquin’s Homecoming. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Rams Stadium. Both teams have an identical 3-0 record.

Shelbyville will travel to Tyler All-Saints Episcopal Academy for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday, September 21, 2018.
