Shelbyville Dragons Gymnasium, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 –
The Shelbyville Lady Dragons defended their home court Tuesday by defeating the San Augustine Lady Wolves by a 42-30 score. The Lady Dragons now stand at 6-2 in District 22 Class 2A play and they have a 16-5 overall season record.
TyKevia Blount scored on two fast breaks near the end of the first period to help give Shelbyville a narrow 9-7 lead but a putback shot by Lady Wolf Emily Wolf tied the game at 9-9 to end of the opening frame. Shelbyville was able to get eight points from Forward Brooke Elliot which helped the Lady Dragons gain a 23-15 lead by the halftime break.
The San Augustine defense stiffened during the third stanza and the Lady Wolves outpaced Shelbyville by scoring 7 points during the third frame and they only allowed the Lady Dragons 2 points. This made the game close going into the final period as Shelbyville’s lead was 25-23.
Shelbyville was able to get multiple scores from Elliot and Jasmine Osby to help outpace the Lady Wolves by a 17-7 margin in the fourth quarter. Brooke Elliot led the Lady Dragons with 13 points, teammate Jasmine Osby added nine, TyKevia Blount 8, Jakaitlyn Bolton 5, Kiana Bennett 3, MicKenzie Murry 2, and Taniya Barnes also scored two points for the Lady Dragons.
Cidacia Clifton led the Lady Wolves with 12 points.
The Lady Dragons will host the Martinsville Lady Pirates on Friday, January 19, 2019 at 5 p.m.
