Lady Dragons Take 11-3 Run Home Softball Win over Lady Rams

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons varsity softball team improved their overall season record to 18-9 with an 11-3 District 22 2A win over the Joaquin Lady Rams on Friday. The win gives Shelbyville and Joaquin each a 7-2 conference mark. Joaquin stands at 17-8-2 overall for the year.

Joaquin scored first when Halle Bonner singled in the top of the second inning but an outfield error allowed her to reach third base. She came home on an infield hit by Jesse Webb. In the third inning Joaquin improved their lead to 2-0 runs when Brooklyn Bagley tripled off the centerfield wall and later scored on a groundout by Kate Fuller.

Shelbyville overtook the lead when Bre Chambers, Taylor Jones and Carsey Lovell each scored during the bottom of the third inning to give the Lady Dragons a narrow 3-2 run lead. The bottom of the fourth inning saw Kylie Snell leadoff with solo homerun over the rightfield wall to give SHS a 4-2 lead. Shelbyville added runs by Cori Lawson and Chambers to go up 6-2 before the fourth frame was finished.

The Lady Dragons brought 11 batters to the plate during another rally in the fifth inning and scores by Cadee Harley, Snell, Lawson, Jayleigh Jones and Chambers ballooned the Shelbyville lead to 11-2.

Joaquin got a leadoff single by Mariya Wilson during the top of the sixth and she later scored after advancing on a Jesse Webb hit and an error but this would prove to be the final run of the contest.

Shelbyville pitcher Taylor Jones got the complete game win and struck out seven and walked 5.

Joaquin will travel to Timpson next Tuesday, April 9, 2024 for a 5:30 p.m. game at Lady Bears Field.
