The Tenaha Lady Tigers varsity basketball squad competed with Woden in a Class 2A Region III Area round playoff on Friday night. The Lady Tigers clawed their way to a 29-23 win over the Woden Lady Eagles.

The game was close throughout and it was a defensive battle. The Lady Tigers held a slim lead over the Lady Eagles and never trailed. THS led 10-3 at the end of the first period and 16-8 at the halftime intermission.

Woden battled their way back and a 3-pointer by Haylee Hornbuckle cut the THS lead to just 2 points at 18-16 with less than a minute left in the third stanza. Tenaha led 20-16 going into the final period of play.

The Lady Eagles battled back to only trail by 2 points twice during the fourth quarter but they were never able to tie the game. The Lady Eagles eventually found themselves needing to foul and put the Lady Tigers at the foul line to keep THS from running out the clock.

The Lady Tigers, coached by Gary Davison, are now 27-5. They reached the playoffs as winners of District 23 Class 2A.

Woden’s season comes to an end. They were the second-place representative of District 22 and they finished with a 24-10 mark this season.

Tenaha next heads to the Texas UIL Region III Quarterfinal Basketball Playoffs where they will face Big Sandy High School at Huntington High School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Big Sandy defeated Cushing 73-9 in their Area round matchup. They are the first-place representative of District 24. BSHS has only given up 35 points during their two playoff games this season.

The Lady Tigers were led by sophomore guard Tiyanna Dagley with 11 points. Woden’s high point lady was senior forward Chelsea Brookshire with ten points.
