Late Notice of Application for Productivity Appraisal

June 26, 2023 - The deadline for filing an application for productivity appraisal for agricultural or timber has passed. However, the Shelby County Appraisal District can take late applications until July 7th with a 10% penalty applied. After the deadline you will be unable to receive the special use appraisal for the 2023 tax year.

If you purchased land in 2022, the productivity appraisal (falsely referred to as an ag exemption) would have been removed for 2023. You would have been sent an application in the mail as well as an appraisal notice that would have a significantly higher assessed value based on the market value instead of the productivity value.

If you purchased 5 acres or more of land prior to 2023 or you believe you own land that would qualify for productivity appraisal, please contact the appraisal district office at (936) 598-6171 before the July 7th deadline.
