Letter to the Editor (Borders Questions Location of Mobile Command Center)

January 15, 2016 - On Tuesday January 5, 2016, while looking at a track of timberland in Panola County for consideration to purchase, I discovered a travel trailer. It was backed against some brush and had a fallen dead tree laying on the back end. It had "Shelby County Sheriff Department" painted on both sides. I recognized it as the sheriff department's mobile command center.

Thinking that it must have been stolen or perhaps sold by the county, I inquired to a number of county officials.

They told me that the county still owns the equipment but could supply no explanation as to why it was sitting in the woods in Panola County on what appears to be a hunting camp with electrical service ran to it. Will Blackwell is the name on the Rusk County Co-op account supplying the electricity.

I publish this letter hesitantly but do not feel this is information that I should keep from other Shelby County tax payers.
