Lion's Club Hosts 6th Annual Happenings at Shelbyville Hill Festival

October 22, 2017 - (Album1, Album2) - The Shelbyville Lion's Club hosted the 2017 Happenings at Shelbyville Hill Festival Saturday, October 21, 2017 where attendees enjoyed food, music and events throughout the day.

At the opening of the festival, Vanita Sims sang the National Anthem. The Blake Brothers Buegrass Band then took to the stage to perform.

During the morning a car show, and 42 tournament were held with many participants in both activities. Presenting the car show awards was Lion's Club member Glenn Johnson.

The car show results are as follows:
59 and Under Division
1st place - red '55 Chevy - David Clark
2nd place - grey and white '55 Ford - JT and Jenny Rhodes 
3rd place - red '57 Chevy - Billy Neal 

60 and Up Division
1st place - grey '66 Corvette - James "Bull" Durham
2nd place - '80 yellow and black Corvette - David Clark
3rd place - '69 Chevy - Dicky Gilchrist

Modern Muscle Car - white Corvette - Richard Kirkley

Best in Show - '35 gold Chevy - Joe Smith

People's Choice - '69 Chevy - Dicky Gilchrist

Each of the winners were presented their awards under the tent with announcers and entertainments provided by DJ Jesse and Shanell Ruiz.

Later in the day as the 42 tournament came to a close first place was announced to be Royce Johnson and Don Lovell and second place went to Louise and Shelby Johnson.

Cake walks were held throughout the day and a variety of winners took sweet memories home as they won a variety of homemade baked goods.

Additional entertainment on the stage was The Bucket List Band as well as Zach Mason and the Jars.

A "Guess the Pumpkin Weight" competition was held and the winner was announced to be Lane Parker guessing 103 lbs, 8 ounces which was the exact weight of the combined melons. He won a $100 gift card. Second place went to Kenna Ray who won a $50 gift card and third place was Kelly Baty who won the melons.

Washer pitching tournament winners, two years in a row, were Dwayne Brister and Connie McSwain.

Several items were up for raffle by the Shelbyville Lion's Club and toward the end of the day the winners were announced:

  • Marlin 30-30 with scope, donated by JML Management, Inc., won by Mark Leach
  • Core AR-15 5.56, donated by K&L Contractors, won by Shane Ray
  • Portacool Cyclone, donated by Gibsons Energy, won by Devon Lout
  • Henry Golden Boy .22, donated by Raymond Construction, won by Cheryl Sanders
  • Savage 110 with scope, donated by JML Management, Inc., won by Scott Massey
  • Century 9mm Pistol Canik, donated by K&L Contractors, won by Mac Warren
  • Traeger Tailgater Grill, donated by Gibsons Energy, won by Jason Mullins
