Lone Star Legal Aid Honors Russell for Pro Bono Work

Annual Pro Bono Awards Announced For Case Handling

November 16, 2015 - To commemorate National Pro Bono Week (October 25·31), Lone Star Legal Aid honors Lynda K. Russell with the 2015 Most Contested Pro Bono Cases Litigated Award. The Lone Star Legal Aid Pro Bono Awards recognizes attorneys, law firms and community partners who donate their time and legal expertise to ensuring that all Shelby County residents have equal access to the courts.

Ms. Russell will be formally recognized on November 20, 2015, 9:30 a.m. at the Shelby County District Courtroom with a certificate of appreciation from LSLA and Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman, court liaison for the Texas Access to Justice Commission. Shelby County District Judges Charles c. (Brick) Dickerson and Judge Charles R. Mitchell are expected to be in attendance for the ceremony.

A solo practitioner in Shelby County since 2012, Lynda has volunteered through Lone Star Legal Aid's Pro Bono Program since opening her practice and has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty since that time. The former Shelby County District Attorney has over 20 years of experience helping East Texan's with their legal issues.

Lynda has selflessly donated her time and expertise with Lone Star legal Aid's Pro Bono Program by providing legal help to several low-income individuals who cannot afford to hire an attorney. She is currently representing several pro bono clients and always has at least one pro bono case going since she began volunteering with program. She will also not hesitate to refer eligible Individuals to Lone Star Legal Aid to be qualified for free legal services and then seek to have them referred back to her for representation.

A dedicated wife and accomplished musician, Lone Star Legal Aid salutes Ms. Russell for her deep personal commitment to pro bono service and her legacy of helping to protect Shelby County's most vulnerable residents. Ms. Russell was the recipient of Lone Star Legal Aid's 2014 Award for Most Pro Bono Cases Litigated.
