Major Crash on SH 87 North Results in Life-Flight of Driver

June 15, 2018 - A driver attempting to retrieve a cell phone looses control of vehicle resulting in a major crash on SH 87 North Wednesday, June 13, 2018 and the driver being life flighted to a Shreveport Hospital.

According to Department of State (DPS) Trooper Keith Jones, a single vehicle crash occurred at 9:24am Wednesday on State Highway 87 North near County Road 1396. A blue 2004 GMC Sierra single cab pickup driven by Markus Harber, 30 of Timpson, with an 8-year-old passenger was southbound when the driver reported trying to retrieve a dropped cell phone. The pickup veered off the roadway to the right striking two mail boxes. The driver over-corrected left entering into a side skid before striking a pipe fence. The vehicle came to rest onto its right side.

The Center Fire Department was dispatched to extricate the driver from the vehicle who was not buckled and was thrown during the crash onto the passenger side. The driver and passenger were both transported to the Nacogdoches Medical Center - Center Emergency Room by ACE EMS. Harber was later life flighted to a Shreveport Hospital. The child passenger who was buckled was released from the Center ER with no injuries.
