Mike Wood Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

April 21, 2017 - The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fish-fry on Saturday, April 22nd, to raise money for the Mike Wood Memorial Scholarship. Catfish plates, with fries, hush puppies, dessert and drink will be available for $10 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the fire station in downtown Joaquin.

The scholarship is a joint venture between the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department, the First United Methodist Church of Joaquin, and the Joaquin Masonic Lodge # 856, all of which Mike Wood played a pivotal role in.

Mike was an accomplished science teacher at Joaquin High School for many years, as well as at Panola College, and the three groups involved are seeking to honor his memory by helping young people to further their education.
