August 16, 2017 - The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is holding meetings to get public input on Wild and Scenic River eligibility and Wildernesses as part of its ongoing Forest Plan Revision.
Meetings will be Sept. 12 in Lufkin at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center and Sept. 14 at the San Augustine Chamber of Commerce, 611 W. Columbia St., San Augustine.
Maps and data will be available for review from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Forest Service staff will be available to answer questions, and record comments. At 6 p.m. there will be an information presentation on the Wild and Scenic River Eligibility Study and Wilderness Inventory, followed by a question and answer session.
“The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas plays a unique role in Texas’ landscape,” said Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor. “We are aware a lot of people have a wide range of opinions about Wild and Scenic Rivers and Wilderness. This is an opportunity for the forest to share information with the public and for the pubic to share comments, ideas, and concerns with us.”
The Sept. 12 meeting in Lufkin will focus on the Davy Crockett and Sam Houston National Forests. The Sept. 14 meeting in San Augustine will focus on the Angelina and Sabine National Forests.
