Newly Elected Timpson Council Members Sworn-In

May 25, 2017 - A swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected council members was held at the Timpson City Council meeting on May 16, 2017.

Leslie Leathers, City Secretary, performed the ceremony and council members Charleston Johnson, Tiffany Collins and Kyle Allen took their oaths of office.

Following the swearing in of newly elected officials, a motion carried by the council to appoint Kyle Allen Mayor Pro-Tem.

In honor of their time on the council, outgoing members George Grace and Janell Baker were presented with plaques marking their service to the community. Baker was not able to attend the meeting; however, Grace was present and able to receive his recognition in person.

Robin Connell, representing Shelby County Children's Advocacy Center, is seen receiving a check on behalf of the organization from Debra Pate Smith, Timpson Mayor on April 18, 2017. The check was for $551.03 and is a result of the collection of the Child Safety Fee by Shelby County.

Agenda items approved during the meeting include:
1. Resolution 20170516-1, an Order declaring the canvassing of the City of Timpson General Election, May 6, 2017.
2. Elect Kyle Allen Mayor Pro-Tem.
3. Consent Agenda Items:
A. Minutes of the regular meeting held on April 18th, 2017
B. Financial Statement for the month of April, 2017
C. Accounts Payable – Unpaid bills for April, 2017

4. Panhandling Ordinance 20170516-2.
5. Purchase of a 750 KVA Three Phase Padmount Transformer from Solomon Corp to be used at Timpson ISD for $9,875 that was approved by project manager with Barry & Clay. This purchase will be booked in the 2017-18 budget cycle.
6. Resignation of Municipal Court Judge James Bogue, due to health reasons. The effective date will be pending the appointment and acceptance of a new judge. The Court will be accepting applications through July 7th and will possibly have an appointment at the July City Council meeting.
