News from Paxton Methodist Church, Nov 6

November 6, 2017 - Sunday was All Saints Sunday or All Souls Sunday. This is the day set aside on the Christian calendar to remember all the saints of the church, our communities, and our families. All of us have people who have influenced our lives and have helped us on our life journey. Sunday was the day to remember them as we celebrated Holy Communion. It is heartwarming to realize that billions of Christians around the world celebrated All Saints Day and Holy Communion right along with Paxton Methodist. Veterans’ Day is Saturday, but all this week schools and community groups will be having Veterans programs to honor and remember those who have served our nation.

We had a good group Sunday morning for Sunday school and church. For worship we were in double digits—exciting for our tiny church. This month we are collecting rice and beans for Community Christian Services. Thursday we will head to Focused Care (Green Acres) at 10:15 for our monthly program. As good Methodists who believe in all kinds of paperwork, we completed the Congregation and Clergy Assessment for this year. Fannie has been very busy getting everything typed out and ready to go. Sue reminded everyone that there will be another flu/pneumonia shot clinic at the Senior Center in Joaquin on Thursday, November 16. Next week will be Gideon Sunday, with our Gideon speaker Sam Hammontree from Marshall.

Our Sunday school lesson continued with various covenants in the Old Testament. The lessons came from Numbers and 1 Samuel. Our Gospel Lesson for All Saints Sunday sees Jesus once again sparring with the Temple elites and pointing out how hypocritical they are. Our Sunday school lesson also dealt with the Temple elites and how Eli’s sons let down their father and God.

“Whoever you are, in whatever faith you were born, whatever creed you profess; if you come to this house to find God you are welcome here.” Paxton United Methodist Church is an inviting church that takes to heart the idea of “Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds.” Sunday School starts at 9:30 and Worship begins at 10:00.
