NWS Issues Flash Flood Warning for Shelby, San Augustine, Sabine Counties

August 30, 2017 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Shelby County in eastern Texas, San Augustine County in eastern Texas, and Sabine County in eastern Texas until 11:45 PM CDT.

At 7:51 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported moderate to heavy rain continues to fall across the warned area. Widespread rainfall amounts of three to in excess of ten inches has already fallen across the warned area, with the higher totals across San Augustine and Sabine Counties. Numerous roads are flooded and closed, with flash flooding expected to continue through the remainder of the evening.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Center, Milam, San Augustine, Logansport, Hemphill, Tenaha, Pineland, Joaquin, Browndell, Patroon, Bland Lake, Neuville, Rosevine, Macune, Shelbyville, Huxley, Broaddus, Jericho, Stockman and Bronson.

Additional rainfall amounts of a half inch to an inch, with isolated higher amounts, are possible in the warned area through 1145 PM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

  • Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
  • Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
  • Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely.
