NWS Issues Flash Flood, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings

April 12, 2022 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport issued a Flash Flood Warning for East Central Shelby County in eastern Texas until 2:45am CDT.

At 11:37pm CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is up to 2 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

South central Red River Parish in northwestern Louisiana... Southwestern Natchitoches Parish in northwestern Louisiana... Sabine Parish in northwestern Louisiana... Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas... Shelby County in eastern Texas... Northwestern Angelina County in eastern Texas... Northern San Augustine County in eastern Texas... Northwestern Sabine County in eastern Texas... East central Cherokee County in northeastern Texas until 1:00am CDT.

At 11:57pm, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Natchitoches to 8 miles west of Nacogdoches, moving east at 25 mph.

Radar indicated 60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include... Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Natchitoches, Center, Milam, Hudson, Many, San Augustine, Zwolle, Converse, Martinsville, Macune, Shelbyville, Douglass, Melrose, Patroon, Bland Lake, Neuville, Woden and Rosevine.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 200 AM CDT for northwestern Louisiana and eastern and northeastern Texas.
