December 29, 2017 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport, LA has issued a special weather statement for the following areas: Sevier, Howard, Little River, Hempstead, Nevada, Miller, Lafayette, Columbia, Union, Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Lincoln, De Soto, Red River, Bienville, Jackson, Ouachita, Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn, Grant, Caldwell, La Salle, McCurtain, Bowie, Franklin, Titus, Camp, Morris, Cass, Wood, Upshur, Marion, Smith, Gregg, Harrison, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Angelina, San Augustine.

...The Coldest Temperatures This Winter Season Are on the Way to the Ark-La-Tex to Start the New Year...
An arctic cold front will move into the region Saturday, with the coldest air so far this winter season expected to spill south Saturday night and Sunday. High temperatures Sunday will likely occur during the morning, with temperatures expected to gradually fall during the day. In addition, there is the potential for light rain or drizzle to transition to light freezing rain, light freezing drizzle, or light snow late Saturday night across Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas, before it possibly spreads south into extreme Northeast Texas and extreme Northern Louisiana north of Interstate 20 Sunday morning. Little if any snow or ice accumulation is expected.
Temperatures will fall below freezing across Southeast Oklahoma, extreme Northeast Texas, and Southwest Arkansas Sunday afternoon, and across the remainder of the region Sunday evening. Temperatures are expected to remain near or below freezing across Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas, and portions of Northern Louisiana through Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday, with nighttime temperatures falling well into the upper teens to near 20 degrees areawide New Years morning, and well into the teens Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. In addition, winds Monday and Tuesday mornings will result in dangerously cold wind chill values falling into the single digits to lower teens over much of the region.
Precautions should be taken now to wrap any exposed pipes, and ensure that the elderly and those that may not have adequate indoor heating are kept warm. Consider bringing your pets inside. If you have to be outside in these very cold temperatures, be sure to dress in layers, wear gloves, and a hat. Extended exposure to these very cold temperatures will lead to frost bite and hypothermia.
