Athens Angler Tops 1,100 in Berkley Event at Fork

November 3, 2017 - Haslet-based Bass Champs closed out its 2017 season this month with its two-day team championship on the Red River out of Shreveport, La. and the 12th annual Berkley Big Bass event at Lake Fork.

Corey and Craig Waldrop took the top spot in the Red River championship with 10 bass weighing 21.81 pounds, while Brian Schott and Scott Gill grabbed second with 20.39 pounds. Both teams won Skeeter bass boats and bonus cash.

On Fork, Allen Teague topped a field of 1,100 anglers with a 9.95 pounder that earned him a fully rigged Skeeter ZX 200 and $1,000 in hourly bonus cash. The tournament produced five more bass over 24 inches, including a pair of eight pounders, a seven pounder and two six pounders.

Deer, duck, quail hunters all busy in November

November is a busy month for Texas hunters as white-tailed deer, duck and goose seasons all get underway during the first two weeks of the month.

The statewide general deer season and duck and goose seasons in the South, East and West zones get underway simultaneously on Nov. 4 while the North Zone duck season begins on Nov. 11.

Another game in play is the statewide quail season, which got underway on Oct. 28. While the quail hunting forecast is not near as favorable as last season following one of the most robust production years in recent times, biologists believe good carry over of adult birds combined with last summer's hatch could lead to some banner hunts on properties with good habitat.
