Panola College Concert Features Pipers, Jazz Band

April 12, 2017 - Every seat in the house was taken when the Panola College Jazz Band and the Panola Pipers put on a show Wednesday, April 5 in the Frances B. Ross Ballroom of the Charles C. Matthews Foundation Student Center.

Sandra Bauer, professor of vocal music, and Dwaine Hubbard, professor of instrumental music, led their students in an hour-long festival of musical favorites. The program included “April in Paris,” “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” “Loafin’,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Do It Again,” “Traces,” “Blame it on the Boogie,” “Deed I Do,” “Killer Joe,” “Motown: The Musical,” and “Augustus Gloop.”

Singers in the Panola Pipers include Samuel Slone, Virginia; Ahmad Casel, Jacksonville; Walker Pahlman, Nacogdoches; Shelby Gipson, San Augustine; Dillon Reynolds, Center; Montana Woodard, Center; Kyana Reagan, Lufkin; Tyesha High, Jacksonville, Lily Allphin, Henderson; Mia Sartor, Carthage, Brittany Fendall, Shreveport; Shannon James, California; Keiarra Ware, Carthage; JaMecia Taylor, Georgia; Alyia Doktor, Longview; Shelby Brown, Tatum; Ashley Newton, Woden; Lauren Williams, Tatum.

Musicians in the Jazz Band include on flute: Esmeralda Acosta, Center, and Savana Hanaway, Carthage. On saxophone: Montana Woodard, Center; Kassi Orbaugh, Carthage; Lady Flores, Cushing; Alexandria Lavender, Center; Whitney Thomas, Center; Destiney Miller, Ore City; Robby Cox; Carthage, and Dakota Brown, Marshall.

Trumpet players include: Urias Quetzala, Garrison; Lirio Rodriguez, New Diana; Raderrius Colbert, Carthage. On percussion: Michael Iwalesin, Nigeria. On piano: Rachel Mukweyi, Mansfield; on vibraphone: Kenzie Yaws, Mabank. On bass guitar: Branton Reeves, Beckville.

Upcoming musical events at Panola College include the choir concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium; the Chamber Singers concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 in the Murphy Payne Community Room; the band concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 in the auditorium; a vocal recital at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 24 in the community room; Jazz on the Quad at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25; and an instrumental recital at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 in the community room.
