Panola Men Upend Angelina at Home, 88-79

January 9, 2017 - Carthage, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team defeated Angelina College here Monday night, 88-78. The win raises their record to 10-5 and 3-2 in Region 14 play. “This was a back and fourth game where our guys stayed composed to make plays down the stretch.” Head Coach Grant McMillan stated. “Our guys are starting to really buy in and trust each other. It’s fun to watch.” He added.

In a seesaw battle to begin the game, Angelina took its biggest lead of the game 28-20 with 9:52 remaining in the first half. Panola closed the frame on a 22-13 run to take a 42-41 halftime lead. Both teams went back and forth most of the second half and found themselves all knotted up at 76 with 2:54 remaining in the game. A Marlon Taylor three-pointer and back-to-back layups by Shandon Goldman sparked a Panola 12-2 run to finish the game and give the Ponies the victory.

Taylor came off the bench and scored 22 points and chased down 10 rebounds. Goldman also scored in double figures adding 18.  Jeremy Roscoe tallied 12 points and TJ Killings rounded out the double figure scorers with 10. Alex Holombe swatted five shots in the victory. The Ponies went 17-19 from the free throw line for the game.

Panola continues Region 14 play this upcoming Thursday, January 11th when they head to Jacksonville, Texas to take on Jacksonville College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM on the campus of Jacksonville College.
