Cal Smith's Walk off Gives Panola College Victory Over Paris Junior College

March 24, 2017 - Panola College took game one of the three game series in dramatic fashion, with a 12-11 walk-off victory over Paris Junior College at Jim Reeves Field on Thursday.  Panola trailed 11-10 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Cal Smith doubled, driving in two runs.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Panola collected 17 hits and Paris 8 hits.

Paris captured a 2 run in the first inning on a throwing error.

Panola cut the lead in half with a solo homerun by Logan Berlof in the bottom of the second.

Paris scored three runs in the top of the third inning to extend their lead by four runs.  But, Panola would score six runs in the bottom half of the third inning to take a two run lead.  Panola scored on a double by Christian Boulware, a single by Logan Bailey, and a double by Chandler Morris. 

Paris scored three more in the fourth inning, two in the fifth inning and one run in the seventh inning to take a four run lead into the eighth.  But it wasn’t enough as Panola responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth and three in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory in walk off fashion. 

Miles Dunn earned the win for Panola. He went one inning, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, and walking zero.

Ryan Ratliff started the game for Panola. He pitched three innings, allowing five runs, and three hits.

Bailey, Morris, Boulware, Julian Flores, Andrew Pace, and Michael Lawson each collected multiple hits for Panola. Boulware went 2-for-5 at the plate as he led the team with four runs batted in.

With the win Panola now extends their regular season record to 25-5 and 7-3 in conference play.  The Ponies will travel to Paris Junior College for a double header Saturday the 25th to finish the series.
