Projects Approved for Lufkin District

February 8, 2016 - LUFKIN – Texas Transportation Commissioners recently approved new construction contracts for the Lufkin District that total almost $10.5 million.

Projects for San Augustine, Polk, Houston, Angelina and Nacogdoches counties were approved at the monthly meeting in Austin and were a part of $297.2 million in newly approved projects across the state.

Approved construction projects for the Lufkin District include:

San Augustine County

A $5.2 million bridge replacement contract was approved that will replace two bridges and the bridge approaches at each location on SH 21. Longview Bridge and Road, contractor for the projects, will work to replace the bridge and approaches at Perkins Creek at a cost of $2.4 million and at Venado Creek at a cost of $2.7 million.

Polk County

A $2 million project was approved that will include upgrades in Lake Livingston State Park. Drewery Construction Company, contractor for the project, will reconstruct roads, parking lots and campsite pullouts in the Youpon, Red Oak and Piney Shore camping areas.

Houston County

A $1.6 million hazard elimination contract on US 287 and FM 132 was approved. AL Helmcamp, contractor for the projects, will work to safety treat fixed objects along a portion of US 287 from 2.1 miles north of FM 2663 to .7 miles south of SL 304 in Crockett at a cost of $1.1 million and on FM 132 from the end of the pavement to SH 7 at a cost of $0.4 million.

Angelina County

A project totaling $861,310 was approved that will allow for safety treating fixed objects along a section of US 69 South from SL 287 in Lufkin to just north of Huntington School. LC Jordan & Son will serve as contractor for the project that extends 8.8 miles.

Nacogdoches County

A project that totals $789,787 was approved that includes resurfacing the roadway with a thin overlay mixture on SL 224. Moore Brothers Construction, contractor for the project, will work from SH 7 to FM 2259 and from FM 2609 to SH 7 on the Nacogdoches east loop to lay the new surface.
