Projects Progressing in Lufkin District

May 9, 2016 LUFKIN – Construction on US 59 in Nacogdoches County will progress this week as additional concrete is placed on the westbound exit ramp near SL 224.

Construction crews will work on the ramp where it intersects the loop and continue to construct driveways and sidewalks throughout the project. Curb and gutter is also being replaced and repaired and cross-drainage structures are also being extended. Concrete will also be placed at the northeast corner of East Spradley and subcontractors are planning to mow throughout project, weather permitting.

Other construction and maintenance projects planned for the coming week include:

SHELBY COUNTY

  • US 96: Construction crews will continue to place surface pavement from 1.4 miles north of SH 87 to just south of SH 7.
  • US 84: Construction continues to remove the old westbound bridge across the Sabine River at the Texas/Louisiana state line. Two-lane traffic is currently diverted onto the newly constructed eastbound bridge. Once demolition is complete, a new westbound bridge will be constructed.
  • FM 139: Construction crews continue work to improve guardrails and cross drainage structures from SH 7 to SH 87.
  • FM 139: Maintenance crews will work to repair base and patch pot holes.
  • Various roadways: Maintenance crews will continue throughout the week to patch potholes, repair signs, install new mailboxes and clear debris from various roadways.
  • CR 4323: Construction of bridge decks at Flat Fork Creek, Relief 1 and 2 as well as the bridge at Mill Creek near Tenaha has been completed. Work continues on the bridge approaches and guardrails for the bridges at Flat Fork and Mill Creek.

ANGELINA COUNTY

  • BU 59/North Timberland Drive: Crews will continue to work on constructing a new railroad bridge and replacing and widening the roadway beneath. Concrete will also be placed in coming days for sidewalks, weather permitting.
  • US 69: Contractors are beginning work and continuing to set barricades for a new project between Lufkin and Huntington that will safety treat fixed objects and upgrade bridge railings and metal beam guard fence.
  • SH 103 West: Maintenance crews will be cutting high edges for better drainage of water from the roadway.
  • FM 324: Crews will be doing base repair along the section of roadway from Frank Street to Pershing Street.
  • Various locations: Maintenance work will continue in several locations that include spraying herbicide for weed control, patching potholes and sign repairs.

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY

  • FM 95: Construction crews will pulverize existing roadway, adding new base material as they work to reconstruct and widen the pavement by 2-feet just north of Garrison from US 59 to the Rusk County line.
  • FM 95: Crews will continue to construct bridge detours at Parallel Creek and Dog Creek.

POLK COUNTY

  • US 190: Construction crews will continue to work on widening sections of the roadway to add passing lanes and entries to driveways and side roads.
  • US 190/FM 350 North: Workers will replace driveway entries and continue to upgrade metal beam guard fence.
  • FM 1988: Crews will continue to haul embankment for bridge headers and place reinforcing steel for the new bridge deck spans on the new bridge at Long King Creek.
  • Livingston State Park: Crews will continue to reconstruct camp loops and parking areas at Yaupon and Red Oak Camp. Access to both loops is closed.
  • Hooks Road: Construction crews are setting abutments for a new county road bridge.
  • Howell Road: The right-of-way has been cleared and utilities are being relocated as construction crews prepare to construct a new county road bridge.

HOUSTON COUNTY

  • US 287/FM 132: Construction crews will begin working this week to safety treat fixed objects from 2.1 miles north of FM 2663 to just south of SL 304 on SL 287. The project will continue from the end of the pavement on FM 132 to SH 7. The $1.6 million project is expected to be completed in about five months.
  • SH 21: Construction crews will work from FM 1280 in Austonio to SH 7 in Crockett to mill and cement treat pavement, haul base and construct culvert extensions. Motorists should expect lane closures throughout the project. Near Crockett, crews will continue to extend structures. Westbound lane closures are planned.
  • FM 227: Construction crews will continue to set barricades and mark and set boundaries as work begins to replace the bridges and approaches at Hickory Creek and Hickory Creek Relief.

SAN JACINTO COUNTY

  • US 59: Construction crews will be working at the overpass at FM 2914 to stabilize roadway subgrade with lime in the new main lanes and placing overhang forms for the southbound bridge deck.
  • US 59: Crews will be replacing silt fence and working on high mast illumination wiring and foundations along the frontage roads just south of the Union Pacific Railroad in Shepherd to just north of FM 2914.
  • SH 156: Maintenance crews will work to mill and repair existing pavement.
  • SH 150: Maintenance crews will be working near the county courthouse on Saturday milling and resurfacing pavement.
  • SH 150: Crews will replace delineators and mailboxes at various locations.
  • FM 946: Maintenance contractors will be trimming limbs and removing dead trees from right-of-ways.
  • FM 1725: Maintenance crews will mill and resurface deteriorating pavement.
  • Various roadways: Tree and limb debris removal.

TRINITY COUNTY

  • SH 94: Maintenance crews will be placing overlay on SH 94 from the Groveton County Courthouse at the intersection of SH 94 and US 287 to Piney Creek.
  • Various locations: Crews will repair potholes and apply herbicide for weed control.

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY

  • US 96: Crews continue to work to add passing lanes from the Shelby County line to FM 3451, clearing trees for right-of-ways and extend cross drainage structures.
  • SH 21: Crews will continue to safety treat fixed objects and replace metal beam guard fence from SH 147 to FM 1, US 96 from FM 83 to the Jasper County line and on FM 1175 from the end of pavement to FM 83.
  • FM 705: Work continues to replace metal beam guard fence from SH 147 to the end of pavement.

SABINE COUNTY

  • SH 21: Maintenance crews will work to level pavement.
  • FM 1: Crews will begin work to reconstruct and widen the paved surface width from SH 184 to SS 1.
  • FM 83: Maintenance crews will make road base repairs.
