Rams Take 10-9 Walk-off Win in Final Inning Over Eagles

The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team took a 10-9 run District 23 2A baseball win over the Woden Eagles on Friday. The win gives the Rams a 13-10-1 overall record and a they stand at 5-6 in the conference with 3 district games remaining in the regular season.

Friday’s action saw Woden load the bases in the top of the first inning. The Eagles got scores from Brayden Dichard and Wade Stanaland to go up 2-0 runs before Joaquin could close the inning out with a double play and a flyout.

The Rams tied things up at 2-2 with scores by Braylin Umbrell and Kaleb Brooks in the bottom of the first inning.

The Eagles went back up 7-2 runs with a rally in the top of the third inning which saw WHS bring 11 batters to the plate. Joaquin scored two in the bottom of the fourth when Tate Bass and Derik Holt crossed the plate on three consecutive base hits to start the inning. The rally was soon after ended though when the Eagles defense turned a double play and retired another Rams batter on a popout. The Eagles led 7-4 until a Rams rally in the bottom of the sixth inning which saw JHS take a 9-7 lead after getting scores from Jake Neal, Bass, Holt, Brooks, and LJ Whitton.

A 2 RBI triple by Woden’s Angel Velasco tied the game at 9-9 by scoring teammates Dichard and Chris Sheffield. Joaquin got the score they needed to get the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh when Holt drew a walk with one out and he later scored on an RBI single to leftfield by Braylin Umbrell to end the game.

The Rams are next scheduled to travel to Mount Enterprise on Tuesday, April 19 for a 6 p.m. conference game at Wildcats Ballpark.
