The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team won a bi-district baseball playoff at West Sabine High School to begin this year’s Texas UIL Baseball Playoffs. The game was Game 1 of a best-of- three game series in the bi-district round between the representatives of District 23 2A and District 24 2A.

Neither team scored during the first two innings. Joaquin got on the board in the top of the third inning when Bennett Anglin and TJ Hawkins began the frame with base hits. Teammate Derek Holt later drove the two in with a triple to centerfield. Caleb Brooks later scored Holt with a single to leftfield which gave JHS a 3-0 run advantage.

West Sabine rallied in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game 3-3. Joaquin went up 6-3 with a rally during the top of the fourth frame but the Tigers came back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth and retied the contest at 6-6.

The game was once again tied 7-7 at the end of the seventh inning and headed to extra innings. Joaquin eventually rallied to score four unanswered runs in the top of the ninth inning, and then later held WSHS scoreless to earn the 11-7 run win.

Caleb Brook pitched six innings for the Rams and struck out seven batters. Bennett Anglin struck out three Tigers in three innings.

On Saturday, May 7 at Joaquin’s Rams Ballpark, the Rams took a 5-3 win in Game 2. They will now advance to the Area round of the playoffs. Details will be made early this week.
