Region 5 ADAC’s Bartel is Prevention Specialist of the Year

July 12, 2023 - Mr. Kim Bartel, M.B.A., C.P.S., Data Coordinator for the Region 5 Prevention Resource Center for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council, received the PRC Prevention Specialist of the Year award at the Annual Prevention Providers' Meeting in Austin recently.

“This was a tremendous honor not only for Kim, but for the entire Region 5 Prevention Resource Center team,” said Melanie Patterson, manager of the center at the council. “Kim demonstrates his passion for data and substance misuse prevention on a daily basis and is an encouragement to all who work with him. We appreciate him and his dedication and congratulate him on bringing home this prestigious award.”

The award recognizes a prevention specialist who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and success in providing critical resources and support to prevention professionals, community coalitions, and other partners working to prevent and address substance use, mental health, and other public health challenges.

Kim’s nominator said in the submission, “Kim has not only provided the greatest investment forward in the office, but he exhibits care and passion for this field of work. He does an amazing job. He is a household name in each of the 15 counties he serves. Kim has played a key role in making it all possible. The data he’s collected along with his empathy and ability to communicate allow him to disseminate information to the public effectively. The Region 5 PRC would not be the same without him.”

The Region 5 Prevention Resource Center team is back in Austin next week for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Institute.

The institute is a four-day conference that provides education and training for state agencies, private providers, clinicians, caregivers, and other stakeholders with a vested interest in addressing the intellectual, mental, and behavioral health needs of a variety of populations.
