Relay for Life Raises Nearly $50,000


The Center Noon Lions Club represented by Jim Sawyer and Danny Paul Windham made a special donation of $1,000 which was accepted by Parfait.

June 26, 2018 (More Photos - Album1, Album2) - Nearly $50,000 was raised at the 13th Annual Relay for Life on June 2, 2018 bringing the grand total to over 1 million dollars which has been raised for cancer research.

Becky Parfait who is co-chair for the event was honored to receive the official proclamation for the 2018 Relay for Life which was read by her co-chairperson Becky Grant.

Survivors, caregivers, family, and friends were entertained by the Center ISD theater troop, "Elephants in the Room," who are lead by their teacher Watlington who added to the excitement of the evening as the master of ceremonies.

Proclamation

Whereas, Relay for Life is the signature activity of the American Cancer Society and celebrates cancer survivors and caregivers, remembers loved ones lost to the disease, and empowers individuals and communities to fight back against cancer, and

Whereas, this year the Relay for Life of Shelby County celebrates thirteen years of fighting against cancer and suporting the American Cancer Society's mission of saving lives and creating a world with less cancer; and

Whereas, Relay for Life, while raising much needed money for cancer research, also continues to fight for lifesaving laws to increase the federal research funding, reduce tobacco use, raise the awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and patient support, and

Whereas, we, here in Shelby County are fortunate to have dedicated and compassionate citizens who are willing to work and support the American Cancer Society in their fight, and

Now, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Allison Harbison, County Judge of Shelby County, Texas recognize all the many volunteers and participants from area families, corporations, churches, and civic groups and does hereby proclaim June 2, 2018 as "Cancer Awareness Day"
