Roughriders Drop Homecoming Game to Lions 37-7

Center Roughriders’ Stadium, Friday, September 21, 2018 –

(Photo Album) The Center Roughriders Varsity Football team’s record fell to 1-3 on Friday when they lost their 2018 Homecoming, to the Henderson Lions, by a 37-7 score. The Lions season record improved to 2-2.

Prior to the football game Jennifer Huichapa was named as Center High School’s 2018 Homecoming Queen.

Henderson scored first after driving 75 yards in 9 plays. The drive was capped with a 21-yard touchdown run by Collin Everitt. An Axel Romero extra point kick gave the Lions a 7-0 lead with just over ten minutes left in the first quarter.

Lion’s linebacker Brady Odom recovered a Roughriders’ fumble on the fourth play of Center’s first offensive drive, he was able to advance the dropped pigskin to the CHS 15 yard line.

Henderson wasted no time making the ‘Riders pay as Eli Jones took a handoff on first down 15 yards to the endzone for Henderson’s second score. A missed extra point kick saw the Lions lead the game by a 13-0 margin with 8:34 remaining in the first quarter.

Center started their second drive off at their own 17 yard line but a bad snap backed them up to their three yard line. On second –down- and- 26 –yards-to-go, Marques Hall took a short pass from Center quarterback Jayden Hicks and raced 97 yards for Center’s only touchdown of the game. Alexis Lopez kicked the extra point for CHS and the Roughriders had cut the Lion’s lead to 13-7 with 7:53 left in the opening period of play.

Axel Ramirez kicked a 43-yard field goal at the beginning of the second quarter which gave Henderson a 16-7 advantage. Jones scored his second touchdown with 8 minutes remaining in the first half. This gave HHS a 23-7 lead which held up for the remainder of the first half.

Henderson was able to score additional touchdowns in each the third and fourth quarters and they were able to make the stops defensively to keep Center from gaining ground.

Next Friday, September 28, 2018, will see Center travel to Grace Community at Tyler for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against the Cougars. Grace Community is 3-1 and they defeated Wills Point on Friday by a 42-34 score.
