Shelby County 4H Competes at Major Livestock Shows Shooting Events

March 2, 2015 - Logan HollowayShelby County was well represented with several 4-H members participating at the major livestock shows shooting sports events. These events had over 800 shooters competing. The San Antonio Livestock Expo (SALE) held the 3rd annual scholarship trap and sporting clays shoot February 18-21 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio. Shelby County 4h shooters had four members participate in the event; Lance Holloway, Logan Holloway, Seth Shamblin and Konner Windham. The main event consisted of 100 shots of trap. SALE gave away 8 $10,000 scholarships for the winners of the trap event. Also, this year SALE held the first ever sporting clays event. The first round consisted of 100 sporting clays targets. The top five kids in each age division proceeded to the finals on Saturday. Logan Holloway hit 93/100 in the first round to proceed and won the finals event on Saturday. Logan won the Champion sporting clays shooter for age group 2. For his efforts he won a competition CZ over under 12 gauge shotgun. It was a fun and exciting few days in San Antonio for the Shelby County 4h shooters.

The Houston Livestock Show held its second annual Young Guns event February 27-March 1st. Shelby County shooters had six kids competing; Colton Gutermuth, Lance Holloway, Logan Holloway, Nic Lambert, Seth Shamblin and Konner Windham. The first round consisted of 100 sporting clays targets. The top ten scores in each age category advanced to the finals which consisted of another 100 targets. Konner Windham placed 7th. She won $250, a belt buckle, and trophy. This is the second year Konner has placed in this event.
