September 7, 2017 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce announces the Chicken Cooking Contest, sponsored by Tyson Foods. On Super Wednesday, September 27, 2017 immediately following the 41st East Texas Poultry Festival Doo Dah parade, sponsored by Center Tire Company. The event will be held on the east side of the historic downtown Center square. In the event of inclement weather, the event will move to the active Shelby County Courthouse community room.
The Chicken Cooking Contest is open for participation in three categories, Youth (ages 8 – 14), High School Youth (ages 14-17) Adult (age 18 and above). Contestants will be provided with approximately 36 inches of covered presentation area to decorate. Participants are asked to prepare their recipe to create 25-30 sample size servings and bring serving utensils. Participants must be set up before the Doo Dah Parade in order to maintain the time schedule. All participants must have some type of cover for their dish.
Chicken Cooking Contest awards and trophies will be presented in each category with First Place $100, Second Place $50 and Third Place $25. All cooking awards will be presented at the conclusion of the event at approximately 6:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. Free samples of the food will be available until the food runs out.
To be eligible for the cooking contest, participants must submit their recipes to the Chamber office by the entry deadline Wednesday, September 13, 2017 by email at email@example.com, postal mail or delivered to 100 Courthouse Square, A-101, Center, TX 75935.
